Creating a Rule inside a Rule Pack

To create a new rule inside of a Rule Pack, navigate to the Rule Pack and click the “+” button on the top right. You will then be prompted to fill in the “Rule Name” and “Rule Description”

Fill in the following fields:

  • Rule Name: Name of the rule.

  • Rule Description: Short description of the rule.

Add an attribute to a rule

Firstly add attributes to the rule. These are the attributes that determine who you can share data with. On the left hand side you will find the Groups as well as pre-given Classifications (e.g. Corporate Data, Employee Data… etc.). By selecting a Group and Classification, you can then select “Add Selected” to be added as Attributes.

Add a county to a rule

You can also add “Countries” as attributes to your rules. Due to a variety of strict regulations limiting how data is shared, this tool will help you limit how data is accessed and processed for a particular country. This way, individual countries are put in a scope and you are able to limit where a country's data is stored and what other countries it can share data with.

When clicking on “Select Country”, you will be prompted to choose a country or countries from a list. You can then hit “Add Selected” to add the selected countries to your rule.

Add claims to a rule

You can also give your rules “Claims” (what we call the “Boolean Engine”). The boolean engine finds claims based on matching rules. Anything that is passed through the eXate API can be called by our engine, which then checks if there is a match. Simply add a claim (a condition, a department…etc.) and the engine will then look through what is passed through our API and match it to see if it grants access or not.

Limiting data usage on a rule

Finally, you can also limit data usage in your rules by clicking on “Purpose of Use”. There you will be prompted to select cases of data usage for your rule which can then be added using the “Add Selected” button. All other cases will be limited and not have access to that particular data.
